| Welcome to the
Dickinson County Sheriff's Office. Our office is responsible for
enforcing the laws of the State of Iowa and the ordinances of
Dickinson County. We currently employ eight full-time deputies, four
full-time jailers, two part-time jailers, eight full-time dispatchers,
one part-time dispatchers and one office manager.
Aside from patrolling the
unincorporated areas of the county, the Sheriff's Office also
contracts with the cities of Wahpeton and Terril. The Office is responsible for
approximately 381 square miles of land and 23 square miles of water in Dickinson
County.
Dickinson
County is located in northwest Iowa along the Minnesota border and is
home to the Iowa Great Lakes area, a popular tourist destination in
the upper Midwest. The county is 408 square miles in size and contains
approximately 14,480 acres of lakes. Among the lakes is Big Spirit
Lake, the largest natural lake in Iowa at 5,684 acres (8.9 square
miles) in size. The 2007 census estimated 16,696 people in Dickinson
County, up from 16,424 in 2000; one of the few rural counties in Iowa that continues to grow
and prosper.
