The photo below has started making the rounds on the e-mail circuit...as soon as just a couple hours after the storm Saturday. The e-mail claims this was taken over West Lake Okoboji.

The claim is completely false. This photo was taken in Florida in 1991. In addition, no evidence could be found that a tornado of any type struck the lakes area Saturday. If you are still not convinced that this photo was not from Saturday's storm, stop by the Emergency Management Office in the Courthouse. I have a poster with this very photo on it.

Power poles snapped and toppled along 140th Street 4 miles east of Lake Park. This stretch was just short of 1 mile of downed poles and lines.


Power poles snapped and toppled 1/2 mile west of Montgomery along 140th Street. This stretch of downed poles/lines was approximately 1/3 mile long. These poles were less than two years old.


The truck on the right side of the road was initially parked between the two buildings on the left. The strong winds pushed the truck down the driveway, across the road, through the ditch and into the bean field on right.

This pole shed was destroyed in Montgomery. Tin from the building was strewn at least 1/4 mile to the south-southeast.


This house was struck by a falling tree in Montgomery.


These grain bins west of Spirit Lake were destroyed Saturday night.


Looking east on 170th Street from 180th Avenue. There were 69Kv power lines on both sides of this road. Both lines were downed by Saturday's winds.


Boats, docks and hoists were blown to shore along Terrace Park on the south side of West Lake Okoboji.


This hundred-year-old cottonwood tree was toppled in Terrace Park and the flag pole next to it was bent by Saturday night's winds.
