Firearm safety course to be held April 17
There will be a firearm safety course on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville. The course will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and is required for anyone wishing to obtain a concealed weapons permit in Iowa. The course consists of classroom education and actual live-fire with a handgun. You must be at least 18 years of age to attend.
If you wish to attend, you must be a resident of Dickinson County and you MUST pre-register by calling Diane at the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office at 712-336-2793. The fee for the course will be $55 and will cover:
• Federal Law • Iowa Law • Legal and Ethical Use of a Firearm • Firearms Safety • Principles of Marksmanship • Practical Range Exercise
Students will be required to bring the following items to class:
• Letter from your county Sheriff stating you are approved to participate in this course. • Quality handgun (revolver or semi-automatic) no larger than .44 Remington Magnum • 50 rounds of ammunition, only new factory or factory re-manufactured ammunition will be allowed (no hand reloads will be permitted). BE CERTAIN THE AMMUNITION IS CORRECT FOR YOUR HANDGUN. • Holster designed for your handgun. • Proper eye (safety glasses or goggles) and hearing protection (ear plugs or muffs). • Attendees must be thoroughly familiar with their handgun. There will be no time allotted for one-on-one training.
