Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) is a program taught at area schools by the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office. D.A.R.E. is a series of classes taught by law enforcement officers that show kids how to resist peer pressure and live productive, drug and violence-free lives.

D.A.R.E. was started in 1983 in Los Angeles. In the 20 years since then, it has spread across the United States and into 54 countries. The program is present in approximately 80 percent of schools in the United States.
